These hinged pieces developed from a visceral interest in material and serious obsession with symmetry. Similar to the painting process used in my other bodies of work,  I mix oil and solvent and gravity to create these. Unlike other work, first I adhere two canvases together with acrylic gesso and peel them apart, leaving behind mirrored fractal-like ridges. This gives me a unique surface to build upon. The finished paintings function much like inkblots, conjuring familiar subject matter from abstraction by way of pareidolia.
